Only in the Upper Midwest

A conversation between a friend and I (as we walked out of the post office).....

"You know it would not be so bad (horribly horrendously cold) if it weren't for the wind."

"Yeah, it would not be too bad."

Never mind that as we said this it was 14 below zero...with a windchill of about 28 below zero. What were we thinking!

ONLY IN THE MIDWEST!

My "baby" is 7....

Really, aren't all our children always our babies? I can not believe that 7 years ago today we welcomed "E" into our family. We had two boys and now we had our enchanting daughter. I still know she is a little girl, but sometimes she gives me a look like..."mom you are embarrassing me!" or "whatever mom" and I know she is getting older. Some of her outfits even make her look older, but let me tell you...she will never stop being my baby.
I'll post more photos later of her birthday.

Not Me Monday

http://

Here we GO...............

I did not wash new rugs with a load of towels and I definately did not turn all my towels red!

When teaching Boy Scouts I did not say "Now we will talk about my period" nope not me because what we were not talking about were our food PYRAMIDS. I did not then elaborate by not saying "Well that is a bit personal, why don'y we talk about our food pyramids." All the mom's did not laugh with me and all the boys did not look completely lost!

I did not let go with a few choice words outside in our yard, my neighbor did not hear me screaming from the top of my lungs, and I was not completely embarrassed. All because my kids did not just throw all their school stuff right in front of the door and I did not try carrying too many things in from the van and I definitely could not not get into my own house and stuff did not go flying...both from my mouth and out of my arms!

I did not go to my daughters teacher and start bawling my eyes out and making a complete fool out of myself just because my daughter seems to be struggling with school, nope not me I stayed in my van and thought about it over the weekend. :) If only I would take a little time before I react to things!

I did not let "F" roll of the bleachers at the school this weekend and he did not bump his head really hard....golly, how many kids have I had and truly, how have they all survived?!?

Pray For....

http://a href="http://www.riggsfamilyblog.com">

This little girl is going through very tough treatment for leukemia, her family is asking for prayers for her. I am asking for you to please pray for her, to help her through this treatment, to help her beat this disease, for strength for her family. All things are possible through prayer, God loves to hear everyone pray and to watch everyone love and support each other. I know that sometimes God's answer is no, but he does do miracles and wouldn't it be awesome if you were praying for this miracle!

Not Me Monday!

http://

So here we go...two whole weeks of "not me's" to catch up on, although I did spill I bit in my other entry (a little of everything)

I did not let my kids play wii for the whole second week they were off from school.

I am not excited that the kids are back in school.

I do not miss our sleeping in because of no school.

I did not go out to eat today with my friends instead of cleaning my bathroom.

I did not then come home and take a power nap rather than clean the bathroom.

I am not doing "Not Me Monday" rather then not getting ready for leading boy scouts tonight.

I did not let "F" take a nap in his snowsuit because I did not want him to wake up when I tried to pry him out of it.

I am not making my children freeze their hands outside because they did not lose one or two of their mittens, which I did not just purchase about two or three weeks ago. I am not refusing to go out and buy new pairs for them. And I am totally not irritated at them because they can never keep track of anything.

Our water heater in our new house did not crash on us this weekend and four of us did not take cold showers so we could go to church.

The kids did not bring the new muffing maker up to their room and decide to try and surprise the whole family with cupcakes...at the same time they did not almost blow up the microwave in the process.

"E" did not get make-up on her new carpet...and I did not confiscate all make-up from her and put it away for awhile.

"F" did not get his first tooth in the last two weeks, and he definitely did not try to use me (aka breast) as a teething ring. (yes, I used a "naughty" word according to my kids).

We did not let our kids watch Speed racer because we knew how many bad words and how much violence was in it...way to go parental control!

As you can see not much went on in our house this pass couple of weeks...I am sure there was more, but for now I have to go.

Happy New Year!

I had to change the look of my blog, and I know it looks like summer...but honestly I have to remind myself of summer because this is the time of year I get the winter blahs. I look out my window and I see the banks of snow (that are close to 2 feet) and know we are expecting six more inches over night tonight and I go a little stir crazy. I am not a winter fan, as you all should know, I can literally stay in the house for days on end, especially when there is no school. I think one time I stayed in for four or five days with out stepping outside. Anyway that is why I spend most of my time outside in the summer....getting all my intake of "outside time" while I can. As most of you know I also love when it gets into the 90s (probably one of the few). My daughter takes after me in this respect. So far I can make her go out at least once a day to get some fresh air (when it is not 20 below) but as she gets older I am sure she will hibernate with me. She only stays out for about 15 minutes at the most.
Here I go again letting my thoughts wander and really have no point, but you all get to read it anyway. We spent New Years Eve in with our kids....how different from when we were single with no kids....we had lots of snacky foods and the kids loved the sparkling "wine" (kiddy variety) they were allowed to drink. We ate, danced, and played the wii and all managed to stay up till midnight, eve "F" after he was woken up because we were being too loud. When all was said and done we had a blast but I think "C" said it best...That's it, that's what New Years about. We watched a little of the New Years programming. This is the first year we allowed the kids to stay awake.
About my new years resolutions..well I did not drink any Mt. Dew yesterday, but I did find a loop hole in that I can drink different pop, so I think I will revise and say I can only drink all types of pop 3 times a week. That might be more manageable. I did not get my 5 fruits in veggies in, but I came close, I think it will be easier when the kids are in school and we are back on a schedule. As for walking, are you crazy it was below zero again.
Well that is all for now, doesn't my mind scare you a little the way it roams from one thing to the next, I try to hold it back a bit but sometimes it just gets out of control. A lot of time "B" will point blank ask me how I got from point a to point b in a conversation and it will amaze him of my thinking process :)
I hope you had a wonderful New Years Eve (and went to better at a more reasonable time than we did) and a great New Years Day. May the next year be blessed with many good surprises for you and your family.
P.S. Seriously, where did 2008 go? I can hardly believe another year has passed, where are we rushing to?
