Sick Kids....And Other Stories

It is 11:45 and I receive a call from the school..."D" has thrown up please come get him." Yikes I think, man he wasn't even complaining about a stomach ache or anything this morning. So I get in the van and I go to the school. As I go find "d" he is all excited to tell me how his puke just came shooting out of his mouth and how far it went. I am thinking, he does not sound very sick. We get home and all I hear is how hungry he is, and I lovingly say "are you crazy you just threw up you are not eating anything. After about an hour I give in and let him have some root beer (only fizzy stuff I have around the house right now) and saltines. For the life of me I can not get this kids to lay down or sit still and then I asked him what he was doing before he threw up. He was playing football (got hit in the gut a couple of times) swinging on swings, running around, tried to do a flip on a bar (another hit to the gut) and drank lots of water. HMMM...I wonder what made him throw up. So I gave in again and let him have a few chicken nuggets, still not sick! Guess he got a free afternoon at home!

"E" came home the other day from school. We have been having some issues with her hitting, so I asked if she hit anyone today (we also have a reward/discipline program at home for this). Here is how the conversation went:
Mom: "E" did you hit anyone today?
"E": No...well yeah (kind of dejected sounding)
Mom: "So what is going to be taken away?
"E" Well computer or TV.
Mom; Yes which one?
"E" How about leapster?
Mom: No, you never play leapster...TV or computer.
"E" I guess TV.
Mom: Who did you hit?
"E": This boy
Mom: Why did you hit this boy?
"E" Well you see him and my friend broke up and my friend was very mad so she told me to hit him and I did.

Okay at this point I am trying not to crack-up and thinking good grief these are first and second graders! Later I took my daughter aside and I said "you know your friends and you are only 6,7,8 years old, way too young to have boyfriends and girlfriends. God meant for those relationships to be very special and he wants you to wait until you are much older so they can be very special. I also told her that she has a good heart and a smart mind and she needs to stop listening to her friends and start doing what she knows is right....Oh man I thought I would be talking about relationships with her when she was maybe say 10 or so, not 7! Where is the lock and keys...this girl is staying home! Or maybe my little conversation made some kind of mark and she won't try to be so grown up so fast!

Anyway Hope one or both of these stories mad you laugh...because they sure brought humor to my life.
